B'reishit, In The Beginning
there it was. equinox. the closest gym to my apartment. i tell my sister that i want to join the gym in hopes to live the "real city life" and it wouldn't hurt to shed a few pounds. she gives me the "sure! sounds great!" that is dripping with sarcasm like she does every time i tell her i want to join the gym. but this time, i tell her, is going to be different! it will be a staple in my day! i will tell people, sorry i can't meet up, i have to go to the gym! i will do all of this to sound cool and fit and of course, to fit into the "hip gym culture" of new york city. I walk by the gym every day for about a month and finally, during a weak moment, i say to my dear sis. "Naomi, i'm nervous to join the gym". She asks, "Why, my dear beautiful-er and smarter-er, younger yet more mature sister?" I respond, "Well, I think I'm going to be the fattest person there". She quickly snaps back "Oh, get over yourself". And, at that moment, I did. i got over myself. And this experience has inspired this little bloggity blog. The fattest girl in the gym on the upper west side.
